Kolkata, West Bengal: Trinamool Congress (TMC) has made a major reshuffle in its national executive, bringing clarity to the party’s leadership structure. This step has been taken after the recent election defeat for the party, in order to control the internal rebellion and to strengthen the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
A section of the party had tried to weaken the position of the party by declaring itself the real TMC. This rebel group had also declared its presidency, which increased instability in the party. However, facing this challenge, the current leadership of TMC has sent a new list to the Election Commission, in which Mamata Banerjee has been re-appointed as the party president. Along with this, his nephew Abhishek Banerjee will remain on the post of National General Secretary.
Many new and old members have been included in this changing executive, which is an indication of the organizational strength of the party and preparedness for the upcoming elections. Party sources say that this reshuffle was necessary to reestablish the party’s image among the public and end internal disputes.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson said, “The party is united under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and they are ready to face all the challenges. The steps taken by the party are necessary to streamline the organization and maintain public trust.”
This strategy of the party is also being discussed among political analysts and media. It remains a topic of discussion, because TMC’s position has weakened a bit after the Bengal Assembly elections. With the new structure and leadership, the party aims to perform better in the upcoming elections.
After sending the new list to the Election Commission, TMC has made it clear that Mamata Banerjee is the official face of the party and her leadership will remain stable. This step has weakened the claims of the internal rebels of the party and sent a message of organizational unity.
Now it remains to be seen how Trinamool Congress, with this new leadership, strengthens its hold in the political environment and faces the upcoming political challenges.
